About Us |
For the past ten years, Paul Stinson has been intimately involved in Canada¡¯s biotechnology and proteomics sectors. During four years as Executive Director of BC Biotech, he was a member of Canada¡¯s Biotech Accord and attracted BioPartnering North America to Vancouver. In January 2005, he became the first Director General of HUPO, the Human Proteome Organisation, based in Montreal. He returned to Vancouver in 2006, where he resurrected and incorporated CAPRA International Inc.
After seven years in the government sector, working in Ottawa and Singapore, Paul completed MBA studies at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland in December 1985. He spent the next seven years at Ciba-Geigy, in Switzerland, Canada, and Zimbabwe. In 1993, he moved to India, where he was Managing Director of Boehringer Mannheim India, an operation with 1,200 employees and $25 million USD in sales, until September 1996.
CAPRA allows Paul to build upon the skills and contacts which he has acquired over twenty-five years in the biopharmaceutical and medical devices sectors.
Paul originally established CAPRA in January 1997 and participated in the 1997 Team Canada trade mission to Thailand. Thereafter, he undertook a one-year consulting assignment with Innovara, a boutique consulting firm to the pharmaceutical industry, based in Massachusetts. On his return to Vancouver, he was Managing Director of UBC¡¯s Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, prior to managing international sales for Quorum Diagnostics, a manufacturer of diagnostic test kits. Immediately prior to starting at BC Biotech, he worked as a sector advisor for biotechnology and medical devices for BC¡¯s Ministry of Employment and Investment.
Since 2003, Paul has worked closely with the producers of the BioPartnering North America conference, which is held in Vancouver every February. The conference now has an important place in the calendars of CEO and business development executives from Biopharma companies around the world. For example, in 2006, CAPRA represented a Chinese pharmaceutical company visiting Canada for the first time; the company has since filed a successful IPO in New York. For more details, click here.
In July 2006, Paul was appointed Overseas Representative, Canada for the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (www.hkstp.org). In this capacity, he encouraged Canadian technology companies to establish a R&D presence at HKSTP, with a view to expand their market into China.
Paul intends to keep working for many years, since his twin sons completed in May 2010 their freshman year in Engineering at Cornell University. Any thoughts of retirement will be postponed until they graduate in 2013.
