About Us |
For the past seven years, Paul Stinson has been intimately involved in Canada’s
biotechnology and proteomics sectors. During four years as Executive Director
of BC Biotech, he was a member of Canada’s Biotech Accord and attracted
BioPartnering North America to Vancouver. In January 2005, he became the first
Director General of HUPO, the Human Proteome Organisation, based in Montreal.
He has now returned to Vancouver, where he has resurrected CAPRA International,
his consulting firm which he “parked” between January 2001 and
December 2005.
After seven years in the government sector, working in Ottawa and Singapore,
Paul completed MBA studies at IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland in December 1985.
He spent the next seven years at Ciba-Geigy, in Switzerland, Canada, and Zimbabwe.
In 1993, he moved to India, where he was Managing Director of Boehringer Mannheim
India, an operation with 1,200 employees and $25 million USD in sales, until
September 1996.
CAPRA allows Paul to build upon the skills and contacts which he acquired
over twenty years in the biopharmaceutical and medical devices sectors.
Paul established CAPRA in January 1997 and participated in the 1997 Team
Canada trade mission to Thailand. Thereafter, he undertook a one-year consulting
assignment with Innovara, a boutique consulting firm to the pharmaceutical
industry, based in Massachusetts. On his return to Vancouver, he was Managing
Director of UBC’s Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics, prior
to managing international sales for Quorum Diagnostics, a manufacturer of diagnostic
test kits. Immediately prior to starting at BC Biotech, he worked as a sector
advisor for biotechnology and medical devices for BC’s Ministry of Employment
and Investment.
At the 4 th Annual BioPartnering North America conference held in Vancouver
from 5 to 7 February 2006, CAPRA represented a Chinese pharmaceutical company visiting
Canada for the first time. CAPRA helped the company to secure a number of meetings
with BC-based biotech companies involved in research in fields similar to their
own. Following the conference, CAPRA also secured tours of two biotech companies,
along with UBC’s University Industry Liaison Office, and introduced them
to an experienced Chinese entrepreneur based in Vancouver.
